The new Mayor of Clare hopes planned legislation will allow the council to provide a tailored system of rates in order to boost business and employment across the county.
Fine Gael Councillor Joe Arkins has taken on the mayoral chains for the final year of the county council’s current term with fellow party colleague John Crowe elected as leas Cathaoirleach.

The Ruan native says many challenges lie ahead with the dissolution of the urban authorities in Ennis, Kilrush, Shannon and Kilkee and admits that lower rates in some of this areas are likely to increase.
While their hands are tied on the issue at the moment- Mayor Arkins hopes this may change
