A Clare government TD believes there has been scaremongering in relation to aspects of the abortion legislation-regarding the threat of suicide.
The inclusion of the clause to allow a pregnant and suicidal woman the right to an termination has sparked massive division among politicians and medical experts.
Already 10 Fine Gael members are expected to vote against the Protection of Life during Pregnancy Bill which is currently being debated in the Dáil.
However all three of Clare’s government TDs have publicly stated they will support the legislation.
Deputy Carey believes the bill has adequate safeguards in relation to the threat of suicide despite claims to the contrary.
