The German Chancellor has described the Anglo tapes as damaging to democracy.
Last night, Angela Merkel said she regards the tapes, which were leaked to the Irish Independent, with "contempt".
The tapes – which were published this week by the paper – show top bankers at Anglo deliberately misled the Central Bank on the cost of the bail out.
In one very damaging conversation the bankers display their contempt for the authorities when a senior executive is heard singing Deutschland uber alles in a mocking tone while laughing about abusing the controversial bank guarantee.

Clare’s Fianna Fail TD has called for ’emergency legislation’ to ensure other recordings similar to the Anglo tapes are not erased.
Speaking in the Dáil Deputy Timmy Dooley, called for laws to be enacted to protect the data.
