Jean Kennedy Smith marks JFK visit with a return to Shannon Airport

Fifty years after President John F Kennedy left Ireland through Shannon Airport, his sister has described his visit here as the time of his life.

On June 29th, 1963 the US President fatefully told crowds at the Airport that he looked forward to seeing ‘old Shannon’s face again’, though it was a vow he was never able to keep.

Today, his only surviving sibling Jean Kennedy Smith was at Shannon, where she signed a manuscript of her brother’s words that day.

She has been in Ireland for around two weeks, attending functions commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of her brother’s historic visit, and told Clare FM that it has been a time of mixed emotions.
