Despite reduced opening hours at Ennis General , junior doctors are routinely working working 24 hour shifts at Clare’s County Hospital.
It comes as the Irish Medical Organisation is balloting its members for industrial action in an effort to force the Government to reduce long working hours for non consultant hospital doctors.

The shifts – which the IMO says put patients lives at risk – are illegal under EU law.
A result on the ballot is expected on September 2nd, and any action could see elective procedures delayed or cancelled.
