A 2-year-old girl is recovering in hospital this afternoon after she was seriously injured by a tapir at Dublin Zoo.
The girl and her mother had been taking part in a ‘show and tell’ event when it’s understood the long-snouted animal became panicked and attacked.

Dublin Zoo says it’s launched an investigation into the incident and has suspended all ‘up-close’ animal visits for the time being.
Doctor Colin Lawton of NUI Galway says tapirs are docile creatures – but are known to be quite powerful.
