Results out for thousands of Leaving Certs

The long wait is over for hundreds of Clare students, who receive their Leaving Cert results today.

A total of 1365 students from across the Banner County, 75 of which sat the Leaving Certificate Applied, will find out their grades today either online or by collecting their results at schools across Clare.

And it’s not just teenagers getting in on the act.  Today is an important moment for the 43 Clare adults who sat their exams in Ennis, Shannon and Kilrush as part of the Back To Education Initiative, organised of the Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board, formerly Clare VEC.

Mary Crawford, principal at St. Joseph’s Secondary School in Spanish Point, has this advice for the loved ones of nervous students.

Nationally the number of candidates sitting the tests this year fell to its lowest level since 2007 – but the uptake for Higher Level Maths increased to a record level.

The State Examinations Commission is again apologising for an error in the maths paper – but it says the issue was taken into account in the marking process.

One person received nine A1 grades at higher level.

The Education Minister Ruairi Quinn is welcoming the increase in the numbers taking Higher Level Maths.
