Doherty urged to tackle waiting lists head on

The head of the Mid West Group of Hospitals is being urged to give the same level of commitment to reducing consultant waiting lists as she did to reducing the endoscopy list at Ennis General.

Newly released HSE figures show that 304 patients have waited over four years for a consultants appointment in Ennis, with nearly 600 in the same position for Dooradoyle and long queues also remain at the Mid West’s Orthopaedic hospital in Croom.

While progress has been made, 2,600 people have been waiting at least a year to see a consultant there, six months before the HSE’s self-imposed deadline to reduce that figure to zero.

Member of the Health Forum West and Clare Councillor Tom McNamara hopes Ann Doherty can live up to that pledge.
