Almost 100-thousand mortgage holders are now over three months behind on their repayments.
New figures from the Central Bank, published in this morning’s Irish Independent, almost 13 per cent of all residential mortgages are behind on repayments.
The figures released or the three months up to June show that 98-thousand residential mortgage holders are now three months or more in arrears.
Almost 13 per cent of mortgages are now in arrears of 90 days or more.
That’s despite the Central Bank’s warning to lenders that they will face penalties if they don’t tackle the arrears crisis.
Bank of Ireland, AIB, Ulster Bank, KBC, Permanent TSB and ACC Bank were each ordered to offer a long-term solution to 20 per cent of their customers in arrears.
However, that warning does not appear to have had any impact as of yet – – with the number of mortgages in arrears rising in every quarter since the Central Bank began measuring the data four years ago.
