Rates Reprieve For Ennis Businesses

It’s could be up to ten years until rates charges faced by businesses in Ennis are brought into line with those elsewhere in the county.

Companies in the county town pay a substantially lower rate than those in other parts of Clare, as their moneys go to Ennis Town Council, but as that body is to be abolished as part of the re-alignment of local government, many had feared an immediate increase, potentially putting jobs at risk.

However, Chambers of Commerce across Ireland are now being told that a transition period will likely be put in place, ranging from 3 years to 10, with the timeframe at the discretion of individual local authorities.
