Winter Vomiting Outbreak Continues At UHL

Health officials at University Hospital Limerick expect infection control measures there to last into next week at least, as they continue to battle an outbreak of the winter vomiting disease.

The norovirus was first reported on September 14th – currently, there are 8 confirmed and 10 suspected cases at the region’s main hospital.

Strict measures have been put in place throughout the hospital, including visiting restrictions, and people are asked to attend the Accident and Emergency Department only if it is absolutely necessary, and to call their GPs if they suspect they have the vomiting bug.

Meanwhile, the Health Service will today present proposals aimed at addressing the dispute over junior doctors’ working hours.

The IMO and HSE have been engaged in talks at the Labour Relations Commission – with the IMO saying that ‘some progress’ had been made yesterday.

Junior doctors last week suspended strike action to give the talks process more time. They say there are still issues to be resolved – and that industrial action remains a possibility.
