There’s still no word on what’s causing a foul odour in Shannon.
The Environmental Protection Agency says it has carried out investigations into reports of a worrying smell in the Smithstown area, following claims by some local representatives that public health may be at risk throughout Shannon until the problem is eliminated.
In response to numerous complaints about a smell in Shannon, the EPA, in cooperation with Clare County Council carried out a visit to Shannon Town and environs and the Smithstown area last week.
In a statement to Clare FM, The Environmental Protection Agency says their investigations are on-going, and have so far included assessments of industrial activities, the sewer network and the Shannon Town Waste Water Treatment Plant.
But there’s still no indication of what the smell is or what’s causing it.
An interim report on the EPA’s initial findings is due to be issued shortly, while a final report is expected to include where specific measures to prevent any repeat of the issues that caused the current problems.
