Concerns Expressed For Clare Water Standards

Concerns have been raised about the standard of Clare’s water, after the network here falls under central control.

While Clare County Council continues to handle the treatment and delivery of the country’s drinking water supply, this will change late next year when water charges and the Irish Water body come on board.

As well as introducing the charges, and installing water meters, the new group will also have to cope with the introduction of stricter international water quality guidelines, which include a drop in the amount of lead that is acceptable.

Councillors in Ennis have predicted that this will pose a particular difficulty in parts of the town, while Fianna Fail Councillor Brian Meaney feels people will demand top quality.
