Warnings of Further Drop In Clare Garda Numbers

Clare’s Chief Superintendent has warned of a further reduction of the total number of Gardai in the county.

John Kerin told last night’s public meeting of the county’s Joint Policing Committee in Ennistymon that up to 17 members of his force could retire by next year, on top of the 53 that have left their positions since 2010.

Some of this will be off-set by the transfer of Gardai, with Clare gaining two extra officers this week, and by the training of new members of the force, which has been confirmed by government in recent weeks.

However, John Kerin has predicted that it will be around 12 months before the benefit of this is seen on the ground.
