Over 60,000 Known To Be Affected By Supervalu Security Breach

It has emerged that a security breach, relating to a loyalty scheme run by an Ennis-based company on behalf of Supervalu, is more serious than first thought.

It’s now believed more than 60,000 of the supermarket’s customers may have had their payment card details compromised by a third party, as part of a breach involving the retailer’s Getaway Breaks loyalty programme.

The scheme was administered by Loyaltybuild, which is based on the Station Road in Clare’s County Town.

Supervalu says it’s suspended the Getaway Breaks booking system pending a thorough investigation and is advising anyone who made a booking between January 2011 and February 2012 to contact their bank, and to check for suspicious activity on their cards.

In a statement, Loyaltybuild says it has taken steps to minimise risk; that it is working ‘around the clock’ to get to the bottom of the issue and that it regrets any inconvenience caused.
