A Shannon-based author has won a prestigious award for debut books.
Tipperary native Donal Ryan has been awarded the £10,000 Guardian first book award 2013 for his novel ‘The Spinning Heart’.

Also longlisted for the Man Booker prize and winner of the Irish Book Awards Book of the Year 2012, ‘The Spinning Heart’ focuses on rural life in recession-hit Ireland and has been a hit with critics since it was published late last year.
