63 jobs are to go in Shannon with the closure of a long-standing factory.
Kraus and Naimer which supplies electrical switchgear will cease production in the shannon Free Zone at the end of January.
The 63 people employed at the Kraus and Naimer facility in Shannon received the news they feared most before Christmas today as senior management from the company’s parent group in Austria confirmed they’ll be out of work in the new year.
Staff were told the closure is due to the business sustaining losses for the last number of years, which have been driven by the impact of weak customer demand due to the global recession
The decision follows previous restructuring efforts and a recent move to enter short working time arrangements.
Expressing his regret the Global President at Kraus and Naimer said said the company’s losses in Shannon were unsustainable.
In a statement to Clare FM, Ted Naimer said they’ll now be "entering into a process with staff over coming days in relation to an orderly winding down of the facility", and he thanked them for the contribution they have made to the company since it was established in Shannon in 1973.
