The M18 motorway remains closed in both directions at Crusheen an effort to clear excess water following heavy showers of hail and sleet this morning.
Gardai in Ennis say there were six accidents on the road this morning, though there were no serious injuries, and the route has been closed since just before 9 o’clock.
Traffic is being diverted onto the old road between Gort and Crusheen at J14 Gort and J16 Barefield, and Gardai say they don’t know when the route will re-open.

Elsewhere the Cratloe to Sixmilebridge Road is closed due to flooding at Poulawiley Bridge.
Gardai also warn of standing water on a number of other routes, including between Ennis and Inagh on the Ennis-Ennistymon Road and between Kilshanny and Lisdoonvarna.
