Childline says it received nearly 15 hundred calls, texts and web messages from children in distress yesterday.
That’s a 20 per cent increase compared to Christmas Day last year.
Problems related to alcohol abuse by adults were among the issues raised by children.
The ISPCC, which runs the service, says the increase was partly due to additional volunteers offering their help this year.
