As the people of Clare prepare to ring in the New Year tonight, special celebrations will be held in Killaloe to mark the beginning of a landmark year there.
2014 is the 1000th anniversary of the death of Brian Boru – the former High King of Ireland who ruled from Kincora Castle.
He will also be at the heart of tonight’s festivities which include the lighting of a ceremonial ‘2014 flame’, fireworks and the ringing of the bells of St. Flannan’s Cathedral to herald the New Year.
The Killaloe/Ballina 2014 Committee have invited everyone to come along tonight to mark the beginning of local and national celebrations leading up to major Brian Boru events in April.
