Council Spending On Housing Less Than National Average

Clare County Council spends a higher than average amount on tourism and heritage, but less on housing and water.

The figures have been compiled on a pro-rata basis by independent research group publicpolicy.ie, which has gathered budgetary data from across the country for 2014.

It shows the Council has an overall income of €98.4 million, or €840 per person.

€91 per person will be spent on housing, compared to the national average of €160, while spending on roads (€169) is broadly in line with the national figure (€171).

At €187, water expenses are significantly above the national average of €155 euro per person while spending on planning, tourism and heritage, and local economic development (€94) is higher than the figure for all of Ireland (€59).
