Ennis Primary Care Centre Plans Still Considered

Plans for a new primary care centre in Ennis could be back on track, even though the project seemed to be dead in the water because GPs were against it.

It's two years since the government included Ennis on a list of 35 towns where a new primary care centre was deemed as a priority.

Funded by a public-private partnership, this would have seen primary, community and continuing care offered under one roof, but late last year the county town wasn't included on a final list of 16 centres.

At the time, Health Minister James Reilly told the Dáil that this was because local doctors were against the process.

However, there now appears to have been a change of heart.

The Irish Medical Times reports that the HSE's Area Manager for Primary Care, Bernard Gloster, has told local representatives that the centre remains a consideration.

He has indicated that there has been "renewed GP/developer interest" but adds that no substantive submission has been received as of yet.
