Sinn Féin Says Additional Senators Must Leave Banking Inquiry

Sinn Fein's calling on two senators to step aside from the banking inquiry, after they were appointed last week.

It comes after Independent TD Stephen Donnelly announced at the weekend that he's resigning from the committee after the government added the pair, ensuring it had a majority.

The Taoiseach and the Tánaiste discussed the Oireachtas banking inquiry yesterday – following the decision of Deputy Donnelly,  and a government spokesperson confirmed that no whips will be imposed on party members serving on the inquiry.

Sinn Fein's finance spokesperson Pearse Doherty says he has contacted Senators Susan O'Keeffe and Michael D'Arcy on the issue, and believes the only way for the inquiry to progress is for them to leave it.
