Man due in court in Athlone

A man in his 30's is due in court in the Midlands this afternoon charged in connection with the discovery of a man's body in Athlone on Friday night.

The remains of Patryk "Paddy" Krupa was recovered from the River Shannon.

 

Gardai have made four arrests in total in connection with this investigation into the murder of a 23 year old Polish national in Athlone on Friday night.

 

A man in his 30's is due in court later today, a man in his 20's remains in Garda custody, while two other men were released this morning without charge.

 

Detectives had been examining reports that a man was attacked and bundled into a car at Lloyd's Lane in Athlone shortly after 8 o'clock on Friday evening.

 

The body of 23 year old Patrick "Paddy" Krupa was recovered from the River Shannon on Friday night.

 

He was known to Gardai and suspected of being involved in drugs.

 

A man 30's will appear before a special sitting of Athlone District Court at 5pm today.
