No Landbank Subsidy For Shannon Airport

Shannon Airport won't be able to rely on income from the lands which surround it during its independent future.

The Airport and Shannon Development are both to fall under the control of a newly-formed Shannon Group, but the new laws to bring this into effect state that the parent body won't be able to use income from one to prop up the other.

The Transport Minister says this will allow for greater transparency in the application of State aid rules, but concern has been expressed that cutting off a potential income stream could hamper growth at the Airport.

Rental income from the Shannon Development-run landbank is reportedly worth €11 million a year.
