Small Clare Schools To Lose Teacher

Nearly forty small schools are to lose a teacher in September – including two in Clare.

The Irish Independent reports that the Irish National Teachers Organisation said this was fundamentally unfair to small rural communities, but the newspaper does not name the Clare schools that are affected.

More than one small school in Cavan, Cork, Galway, Mayo and Tipperary will also lose a teacher under new guidelines, which come into effect from September.

A school will need a minimum of 20 pupils to retain two teachers; 56 pupils to employ three teachers; and 86 pupils to have four teachers.
