There are calls for the Minister for Justice to extend the Small Areas Policing Scheme to rural areas such as Clare.
The program is already in operation in Dublin, and has seen Garda personnel assigned to particular areas to work with local groups.

Fine Gael Senator Martin Conway says it has proven to be highly successful in the capital, and he now wants it rolled out here too.
He feels it would encourage the community to assist Gardaí in their work.
