Days after his appointment, Minister Joe McHugh has re-iterated government policy by saying no fracking will be given the go-ahead in Ireland until at least 2016, after an EPA investigation into the environmental and health impacts of hydraulic fracturing.

Here, there has been widespread opposition to fracking, after a UK-based firm were given an exploratory license to see if Loop Head was suitable for the extraction of Shale Gas.

Minister McHugh says Ireland must learn from the experiences of other countries.
