Gardai investigate Pipe Bomb in a Pram

A spokesperson for the Army Bomb Disposal says a viable pipe bomb, brought into a Cork City Garda Station this morning, could have seriously injured someone – or even killed – had it detonated.

Shortly after 10 o'clock this morning, a man entered Togher Garda Station, carrying a suspect device in a pram.

He said he found it at the rear of his house in the nearby suburb of Ballyphehane.

The Garda Station was evacuated and the Army Bomb Disposal team arrived at the scene.

The device was made safe and experts have confirmed it was a viable pipe bomb.

Gardai don't believe that the man who found the pipe bomb was the intended target of the attack.

They're  investigating whether it may have been linked to a petrol bomb attack on a house in Blackwater Grove in Togher late last Friday night.
