Clare Immmigrant Support Centre Calls for Calm Over M18 Works

The organisation representing immigrants in Clare says calls by a South Galway councillor for companies building the  Gort to Tuam motorway to hire Irish people alone as inapprporitate. 

Councillor, Michael Fahy says he believes if the construction jobs on the €550m Gort-Tuam motorway were to go to non-Irish workers, the money would leave the country.

Clare Immigrant Support Centre is urging caution following statements by a Galway Councillor, Michael Fahy. 

While recognising the current financial difficulties many are faced with Director of the organisation Orla Ní Éili syas those problems are not exclusive to Irish natives living her.

A spokesperson for the Immigrant Council of Ireland described Cllr Fahy's comments as "offensive and unacceptable" and called on him to withdraw them.

However Councillor, Michael Fahy says he believes if the construction jobs on the €550m Gort-Tuam motorway were to go to non-Irish workers, the money would leave the country.

Cllr Fahy has called on all the companies involved to ensure local Irish people are highered and not people from other countries.

The works once complete will complete the motorway links from Galway to Shannon Airport.
