Former Limerick Cathaoirlech Looses Battle with Motor Neuron Disese

She passed away at her home in Pallasgreen overnight after being diagnosed with the disease in 2012 – while she was still Chairperson.

In a statement the Finance Minister Michael Noonan has offered his condolences to her family.

Her death comes as it emerges that Irish donations for the Ice Bucket Challenge, which benefits the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Society, have now passed one million euro.

The group says it'll donate a quarter of the money to research into the disease – with the rest going towards services for Irish sufferers.
