Calls For Late Reprieve On NPPR Deadline

A West Clare Councillor is calling for a two-week reprieve on the deadline for the second home tax.

The Non-Principal Private Residence tax or NPPR was introduced five years ago, and has now been replaced by the general property tax, but those who haven't complied with the law have racked up a charge of over €4,200.

That figure will increase to €7,200 if action is not taken before Sunday's deadline, and people in financial difficulty are being advised to contact the Council.

Lissycasey Fianna Fáil Cllr PJ Kelly says the penalty is excessive.
