The O'Donughues had applied for a place for Cian at St Flannan's and Rice College earlier this year.

However at that time neither school were able to accomodate Cian.

The O'Donoghues have a younger son who has serious health issues which mean Cian's parents need him to be able to avail of the school bus into Ennis.

Yesterday a place at Rice College became available and mum Ann Marie says they're thrilled.

In a statement to Clare FM Rice Collge says their admissions policy is available on the school's website www.ricecollege.ie.

Once this process is complete principal Louis Mulqueen says any parent, in any year group, can apply through their general application process which is dependent on places being available at the time.

Mr Mulqueen says in the case of Cian O'Donoghue a place became available this week through this process and that the O'Donoghue famil followed procedure correctly.

Ann Marie says she hopes the situation parents face in trying to get children into their chosen school is addressed.
