Clare Class Sizes Amongst Highest In Ireland

New figures show Clare's classrooms are some of the most overcrowded in the country.

The Irish National Teachers Organisation says almost 4,000 of the banner's children are in so-called super-sized classes of at least thirty pupils.

They also say 90% per cent of primary pupils in Clare, or 12,000 children, are in classes greater than the EU average of 20.

Over 3,800 are in what are called supersized classes of thirty or more children.

The organisation is calling on Minister Jan O'Sullivan to put together a plan to reduce the figures.

However, they say they recognise the challenge the Education Minister faces saying Irish class sizes are back to where they were ten years ago and getting worse.
