65% of people say being treated for a mental health problem is viewed by Irish Society as a sign of failure.
A new Survey from St. Patrick’s Mental Health Services – published to coincide with World Suicide Awareness day – shows the stigma associated with mental health issues are still prevalent.
A fifth of people claim they would not trust someone who previously had a mental health problem while only 54 per cent of respondents hold the view that Irish people would willingly accept someone with a mental health problem as a close friend.
St. Patrick’s Mental Health say it's disappointing that stigma still remains one of the biggest issues facing their services.
