Pressure on Health Minister to Complete A&E at University Hospital Limerick

A Clare government TD says a new 30-bed unit at University Hospital Limerick will not ease pressure on the Minister for Health to bring a new accident and emergency facility to the region.

It's expected that around two million euro will be invested in staffing – the unit is aimed at alleviating overcrowding at the current A&E, which has been deemed unfit for purpose by HIQA.

This new 30 bed unit has yet to be confirmed, but Health Minister Leo Varadkar will chair talks about it with local TDs when the Dáil returns next week.

Labour TD Michael McNamara says it is welcome, but more is needed.
