Gardaí in Kells have launched an investigation after human remains were found in Co. Meath.
The discovery was made during excavation work at Oristown Bog near Kells on Thursday.
The remains are that of a man – and were removed to the mortuary at Our Lady’s Hospital, in Navan.
A post-mortem examination has been carried out by the State Pathologist Dr. Cassidy.
Gardai are now awaiting the results of DNA analysis as the process of identifying the deceased continues.
A burnt out shell of a car was also recovered at the scene.
It’s understood the car was reported stolen in the Kells area in 2003.
A technical and forensic examination at the scene has now concluded.
Gardai say their investigation is ongoing.
