The Bishop of Killaloe has deferred the introduction of a permanent program of male-only Deacons in the Diocese.
In a note read out at masses throughout the county this weekend, Bishop Kieran O'Reilly said he made the decision after listening very carefully to the concerns of individuals and groups.

A number of people, particulalry women, have been critical of the fact that they had not been invited to take part, and Bishop Kieran has said he believes the level of engagement is a sign of the energy and commitment of many in the church.
