60% Increase In University Hospital Limerick Overcrowding

The number of patients on trolleys at University Hospital Limerick last month was nearly 60% higher than in September 2013.

551 people were forced to wait on trolleys at Dooradoyle in September, the highest figure recorded there by the INMO since their Trolleywatch statistics began in 2007.

Meanwhile, the Health Minister is due to answer questions on overcrowding at University Hospital Limerick in the Dáil later.

Minister Leo Varadkar is expected to outline his response to recent issues at Dooradoyle, amid hopes that he will green-light two million euro to open a new 30-bed temporary unit there.
