A senior figure within the UL Hospitals Group has defended their opposition to upgrading Ennis General to a Model 3 Hospital.
Clare Councillors and TDs are among those who have called for the hospital to be re-branded, a move which would cost more money but could lead to the return of full-time A&E cover to Clare.

However, the HSE has said this would be a 'retrograde step' that would not be in the overall interests of patient care.
Speaking on Clare FM's morning Focus today, the UL Hospitals Group Chief Clinical Director Dr. John Kennedy says the focus should instead be on bolstering current facilities in the Midwest.
