Clare Councillor says Government missed golden chance for motor tax reform

The government is being told that it has missed a "golden opportunity" to change the motor tax system in this week's budget.

Despite all of the changes announced by Ministers Noonan and Howlin, the motor taxation rates will remain the same next year.

That means a higher tax rate will continue to be levied on older vehicles, while those who tax their vehicles on a quarterly or half-yearly basis will continue to pay a premium.

Sixmilebridge Independent Councillor PJ Ryan, who has made numerous calls for the system to change in recent years, feels it's disappointing.
