New Report Claims Ambulance Target Times Are Unrealistic

A new report says Ireland is "too rural" for ambulance response time targets to be met.

According to The Irish Times, a study commissioned by the HSE found the cost of running an ambulance service is much higher here than in England – because of "high rurality".

It also says Irish people are less than half as likely to call the service as their English counterparts.

The report says the only way to improve response times would be hiring hundreds of extra staff at a cost of 15 million euro per year.
