Caution advised on Clare’s roads

Gardai in Clare are advising caution on the counties roads as temperatures are set to drop again this evening.

A number of minor accidents were reported early this morning in Kilfenora, Dysart and Sixmilebridge as icy conditions made for dangerous driving conditions.

There were no injuries reported from any of these incidents.

Gardai continue to ask motorists to drive with care as some frost may linger, with temperatures tonight expected to drop below freezing once more.

Clare County Council says it used up to 500 tonnes of rock salt treating the county's roads this week.

Seven salting trucks, operating out of the Council depot in Beechpark, Ennis have been maintaining 600km of secondary and regional roads on a 24-hour basis on account of the cold snap.

Staff are in for a busy weekend, meanwhile, as Met Eireann warns of extremely cold conditions and over the coming days.
