The Irish Aviation Authority has found the number of flights at Shannon Airport increased by nearly a fifth last year.
The 18.7 per cent increase is higher than the other state airports, while the total number of flights at Shannon last year was 1,400 more than at Cork.

Shannon itself has yet to release final passenger numbers for 2014, but officials there have indicated that they expect this figure to have increased by at least 15%.
