Former Mayor “Disappointed” At Court’s Boy Racers Decision

A former Mayor of Clare says he's disappointed with the decision of a Circuit Court judge to quash the driving bans of seven people who took part in a late night rally in North Clare.

The seven are aged from 18 to 27 and have addresses in Lisdoonvarna, Lahinch, Ennis, Quin, Kilmihil, Connolly and Miltown Malbay.

They pleaded guilty to offences arising out of the late night cruise which was held in the Cliffs of Moher, Lahinch, Doolin and Corkscrewhill on the night of March 7th last.

Judge Tom O'Donnell described behaviour on the night as "outrageous and appalling”, but overturned driving bans because all seven had pleaded guilty and had no previous convictions.

However, East Clare Councillor Pat Hayes there should be stern punishments in cases of this kind.
