The Retained Fire Services are to ballot for industrial action across the country over fears that a reduction in crewing levels will put fire-fighters and the public at risk.
The directive would see attending crews reduced by one fire-fighter.

The Department of the Environment insists changing the crew number would simply keep Ireland in line with international norms.
Clare's Chief Fire Officer says he has yet to be notified of the ballot, but his office is open to speaking with SIPTU on any concerns they may have here.
