English Urges Anti-Water Charges Campaigners To Register Anyway

A government Minister has urged the Clare public to register with Irish Water today, even if they don't intend to pay.

Damien English, the Junior Minister at the Department of Jobs, says those who are opposed to paying for water should register and then "have the conversation" afterwards, a move which he feels will limit peoples' exposure to potential penalties.

The deadline to register with Irish Water is midnight, but the Environment Minister Alan Kelly says this isn't a "drop dead date."

Those who don't will still be able to avail of the 100 euro water conservation grant if they miss the deadline.

Meanwhile, anti-water charges protestors in Clare are vowing to continue their campaign, with Shannon Sinn Féin Councillor Mike McKee telling Clare FM that he's confident the upcoming General Election will help them be successful in their campaign.
