The Minister for Jobs says the Midwest is a challenging area when it comes to creating employment here.
Richard Bruton made the comment as he launched the Government's new regional jobs strategy this morning.
The plan will see 250 million euro spent over five years – with 150 million euro going to the IDA to develop infrastructure to attract companies to regions outside of the urban centres.
However a detailed strategy for the Midwest is not expected to be made public for a number of months yet.
The long awaited plan is being welcomed by business groups here in the Midwest.
