The call comes from the Independent Broadcasters of Ireland, on this, World Radio Day.

The IBI, which represents independent radio stations, says its members command almost 70 percent of the time spent listening to radio.

But it says government policy is 100 percent biased towards RTE, not least of all when it comes to revenue from the broadcasting charge.

Chairman of the IBI, John Purcell, says the government has failed to secure the future of broadcasting.
