Clare Senator To Resign Whip If Government Sells Aer Lingus Stake

A Clare Fine Gael Senator is vowing to leave the party if the Government sells its stake in Aer Lingus.

Shannon politician Tony Mulcahy says he has made the decision after IAG Chief Willie Walsh confirmed to the Oireachtas Transport Committee last night that transatlantic flights are not included in his guarantees.

Mr Walsh has departed Ireland having spent the last two days meeting with politicians outlining his company's plans for Aer Lingus if their buy out goes ahead.

Senatory Mulcahy says connectivity to America is crucial to this region and as such he's calling on the Government to reject the take over bid of the former flag carrier.
